Family Reunions: 4 Ideas To Make It Great
July is the most popular month of the year for family reunions and there are few things as enjoyable as catching up with relatives and enjoying the gorgeous weather outside. Here are four ideas to make sure your family reunion is as fun as it possibly can be:
1. Pick the Right Location
This can change dramatically upon the specific family, but the most important thing to consider is that there will be something for everybody to do. A beach is a great idea as it will allow the children to run around and play while the adults can relax and soak in the sun. A park or lake would be a good idea for similar reasons. A relative that has a house with a nice backyard and a swimming pool would also provide an ideal reunion spot if they are gracious enough to host the affair. Many families decide to partake in a destination reunion at a tropical resort or an amusement park. Whatever you decide make sure that the location can be fit into everybody’s budget and schedule, you don’t want to force anybody to miss out on a great time with their loved ones.
2. Appoint An Organizer
Every family has one person who tends to take charge, and this is especially important for a family reunion. The official organizer should be responsible for inviting everybody, securing the location, etc. They should prepare opening remarks that welcomes everybody and briefly goes over the day’s events, then oversee the organized activities. It can be a lot of work, but it is a small price to pay for providing a wonderful day for the entire family.
3. Plan Lots of Games and Activities
Family reunions can be fun on their own, but organizing and providing games or activities will make sure everybody is involved. Some common ideas include bingo, pie eating contests, water balloon toss, and a three-legged race. If you want to make it especially epic, try organizing a massive relay race that will involve everybody at once.
4. Have Lots of Food and Refreshments
This should go without saying, but make sure there is something for everybody. Make sure coolers are stocked with soda and water for the children, and beer and wine for the adults, if that is something they would enjoy. Make it a potluck and invite everybody to bring their favorite dishes. Fire up the grill and make your choice of burgers, hot dogs, ribs, chicken, etc. Make sure to bring extra since everybody should be especially hungry after having fun in the sun all day long!
